Making Good, Meaty Choices

It’s easy to breeze through your shopping list and find meat that tastes good.  It’s hard to go through the supermarket and take time to find meats that include healthy benefits to your diet.  While it’s difficult to balance the health benefits versus taste satisfaction, there is a balance between the two.

While it might take some time to learn and understand the pros and cons of different meats, you’ll love the results you see in your health and physique—all from choosing healthier alternatives to red meat.  Whether you eat particular meats out of habit or comfort zones, it’s time to break out of your shell and try something new.  Though some of these meats might not seem popular in the food communities, give it a try.

One of the healthiest meats for your body is Kangaroo meat.  That’s right, straight from the down under.  You might have never guessed it, but Kangaroo meat trumps white fish with less calories and fat per serving.  Compared to red meat, Kangaroo meat has just as much iron and only a little less protein.  To cook this meat, you can follow beef recipes.  Use it in your favorite marinade or opt for something different like a casserole.

If Kangaroo meat isn’t readily available to you, white fish is the next best thing.  You’ve always heard about the health benefits of eating white fish, but think about the comparison and you’ll still be amazed.  Providing you with iron and health omega-3 fatty acids, you’ll have more energy to stay active.  And that’s not all.  This low fat and high protein meat knocks red meats out of the park.  When you choose white fish, you’re choosing a significantly better alternative with impressive flavors.

Taking third and fourth place for the best meats for you are two very different meats—ostrich and chicken breast.  While you might want to skip three and head straight for four, give it a chance.  Ostrich has a total of 2.5 grams of fat, while chicken breast with no skin jumps to 4.1 grams of fat.  If you’re looking for healthy meals with the least amount of calories, opt out of the red meats and head straight for white meat.

The best meats for you when you’re looking to lose weight is going to be different if you’re body requires more iron.  If you’re trying to lose weight, stick with the order listed above.  If, however, you want to gain muscle chicken breast, ostrich, white fish, pork tenderloin, and beef are all good choices.  The order listed is the best for you to accomplish your goal.  Meats that provide you with more iron include kangaroo, beef, and lamb.

There are several meats that can provide you with healthy alternatives to high fatty, little protein meats.  Consider your health goals and what your body needs when you choose which meats would best match your lifestyle.  Eating the right meats will make a huge difference in your energy levels and body.
