Orberra Gastric Balloon Bariatric Weight Loss Surgery

From simple, everyday tasks like walking up a flight of stairs to more lofty goals or running a marathon or riding bikes with your grandchildren, bariatric weight loss has the potential to transform your life and give you opportunities that you never imagined.

Dr. Frenzel is dual fellowship trained in bariatric surgery and cosmetic plastic surgery to take patients on a journey that will transform their life.  And it all starts with bariatric surgery.  If you’re researching weight loss surgery for the first time, it can be overwhelming to see so many options.  But each bariatric surgery technique offers you a fresh start at life.  Research the different procedures and schedule a consultation with Dr. Frenzel to determine which surgery, if any, is best for your specific body needs.

The Orberra Gastric Balloon is an FDA-approved weight loss system that allows patients to lose an impressive 3.1 times more weight than diet and exercise alone.  This procedure is less invasive than other bariatric surgeries, but there are certain criteria for candidates to consider.

If you are thinking about Orberra Gastric Balloon, you must have a body mass index between 30 and 40.  Other procedures are typically not indicated for patients of this BMI.

The Orberra system is a two-part program to help patients achieve their goals and see their results each step of the way.  It starts with a soft balloon that is placed in the stomach for six months.  The purpose of the balloon is to reinforce proper portion control.  That means that the balloon takes up space in the stomach to restrict consumption, which teaches you to eat smaller portions.  And all of this is a possibility without surgery or incisions!

During this process, you will receive coaching on nutrition, portion control, and exercise.  At six months, the balloon is deflated and removed.  However, that’s when the second step of the process begins.  For the next six months, you will remain in the program and continue to work with the specialists to ensure the habits formed during the first six months are reinforced.

Patients who choose the Orberra system can expect rapid weight loss, most of which occurs in the first three months.  On average, gastric balloon patients have lost more than three times the weight loss of patients who diet and exercise alone.  But, be prepared.  This program requires dedication and commitment.  Exercise and a healthy diet are key.  Orberra Gastric Balloon helps you lose weight, but ultimately, you choose if it stays off.

During this non-surgical procedure, patients are under a mild sedative.  A deflated Orbera TM balloon is placed into the stomach and then filled with saline until it’s the size of a grapefruit.  This 30 minute procedure allows patients to be back home the same day.

The options for your future are endless.  Make each day count and enjoy a new lease on life.
